I have to warn you... I'm severely technologically impaired, so I know next to nothing about computers.

I keep getting a pop-up that says "Window desktop manager has topped working," sometimes it says "and was closed."

Files that help describe the problem:

Hello and welcome to the forums.
Depending on how long this has been happening you might want to attempt a system restore to a point in time just prior to the problem's first occurrence.
System Restore - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows
Alternately perhaps running the System File Check might provide some positive results or at least some information as to what might be going on.
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
And possibly as a last resort if the problem seems too difficult to diagnose or the potential solutions seem overly complex to understand or deal with you may want to try what we used to call and In Place Upgrade Repair
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2
If your current install has Service Pack 1 already installed, then you will likely need install media that has SP1 integrated into it already in order to perform this successfully.

In addition to what Trouble mentions, you might also check the Event Viewer and see if it shows any errors around the time of the problem, or just mentions the DWM.

You might also check the Action center (white flag) to see if any messages are waiting for you and see if there are any solutions.
