In task manager, I tried to run new task explorer.exe Nothing
Ran sfc /scannow Nothing
Entered a batch file to terminate and run explorer.exe Nothing
File explorer options through control panel are viewable/customizable but
no matter what is done, still same results.
Windows search service is active, set to automatic start
I've run all antivirus, malware and spybot searches. PC is clean.
Other than a repair install, I need some clue as to how I can reinstall my missing/corrupted file explorer

Solution
You'dprobably want to do a system restore. Sounds like you have some screwed up file associations or other registry problems. System restore or a restore are likely your only ways to fix it.

Tried. When restarting it asked for a password that I never wrote down/forgot/lost
At my age I'm fortunate to remember what I did ten minutes ago
Oh well.
Screwed again.

Depends if it's truly explorer.exe that is bad then just replacing it from a windows install disk would likely suffice, if it's a dependency that's the problem it's still likely possible but quite a bit more difficult to track down

When clicking on file explorer shortcut, says no associated application
Starting it from the search bar, where the large images show up (File Explorer, Google Chrome, etc), nothing happens.
Reinstall without restsrt?
I have no install cd. Came with the PC.
I made a backup install on USB.
Not quite sure how to reinstall from there or even if it is possible.
It worked, but extremely slow and sluggish until I tried to fix it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Now I can see file explorer options in control panel,
I reset all to default, but it still will not open

Fixed. I used Windows RESET.
Have to reinstall a lot of programs but I learned a hard lesson.
Not gonna screw with tweaks any time soon.

Well two days past the Reset, and 98% finished reinstalling everything,
Very pleased with results.
Everything is going great.
EXCEPT
File explorer is extremely slow.
And
When using it to view a folder, and trying to view a photo, I select Open With and everything freezes.
