A computer monitor displays a futuristic digital interface with floating data icons and code, suggesting a high-tech environment. What's New in Build 27909?

  • Release Channel: Canary Channel (aimed at very early testing and feedback)
  • Main Focus: General platform improvements and key bug fixes rather than major new features

Key Fixes and Improvements

  • Xbox App / Admin Protection
  • Fixed a bug where the Xbox app could not launch when administrator protection was enabled
  • Also resolved errors (0xC0000142 or 0xC0000045) that may have affected launching other apps
  • Settings
  • Battery percentage now shows again at the top of System > Power & Battery (previously missing)
  • Remote Desktop
  • Fixed graphical/rendering distortions over Remote Desktop sessions on Arm64 PCs
  • Other Fixes
  • Addressed a high-frequency crash related to pcasvc.dll
  • Media Player no longer shows a disconnect option for devices already unplugged

Known Issues

  • Copilot+ PC PIN/Biometrics:
  • If you switch to Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC from another channel or retail build, Windows Hello PIN & biometric sign-in may not work (error 0xd0000225). Suggested workaround: Recreate the PIN by choosing “Set up my PIN.”
  • No SDK for 27xxx builds will be released at this time.
Feedback Encouraged: Users are urged to use Feedback Hub to report issues, continuing Microsoft's iterative development process.

Here are the official highlights for the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27909 (Canary Channel):

A computer screen displays the Windows 11 logo against a digital blue abstract background.Changes and Improvements

  • General improvements and fixes have been made to enhance the overall experience for Insiders using this build.

Fixes

[Administrator Protection]
  • Fixed an issue where the Xbox app (and potentially other apps) would not launch if administrator protection was enabled, displaying errors 0xC0000142 or 0xC0000045.
[Settings]
  • Fixed a bug where the battery percentage was missing from the top of System > Power & Battery in recent builds.
[Remote Desktop]
  • Fixed severe graphical distortions and rendering issues while using remote desktop on Arm64 PCs.
[Other]
  • Fixed a frequent crash involving pcasvc.dll.
  • Fixed a scenario where if you disconnected from a casting device outside of Media Player, the Media Player app would still show an option to disconnect.
  • Fixed Remote Credential Guard failures between the latest Windows 11 builds and Server 2022 (and below).

Known Issues

[General]
  • IMPORTANT for Copilot+ PCs: If joining the Canary Channel from Dev Channel/Release Preview/retail on a Copilot+ PC, you will lose Windows Hello PIN and biometrics login (error 0xd0000225: "Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available"). To fix, click "Set up my PIN".
  • Some Insiders may experience repeated bugchecks (KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE) after upgrade, possibly when connecting to VPN.
  • This build plays the Windows Vista boot sound instead of the Windows 11 boot sound (this will be fixed soon).
[Settings]
  • Settings may crash when interacting with options under Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Some apostrophes in Settings text/dialogs may not display correctly and show random characters.

Reminders

  • Canary Channel builds are early development and may not match any specific future Windows release.
  • Many features are rolled out gradually and might never reach production.
  • Features and experiences may first appear in Dev/Beta channels before Canary, or vice versa.
  • Not all features in these builds are fully localized.
  • To leave the Canary Channel, you need to do a clean install of Windows 11.
  • Pre-release builds show a desktop watermark.
