I have a desktop and laptop running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium.

The Desktop is connected via cable and my Laptop is connected to my network via wireless.

I can connect to the internet no problem from both. I am able to "Create a HomeGroup" on both my Desktop and Laptop. The issue I have is I am unable to join a homgroup if I create one on my desktop and try to join using my laptop. (I am only given the option to create a homegroup).

I have researched the forums, and I do have IPv6 enabled on both my desktop and my laptop.

I have ran the self diagnostic check through windows 7. None of the suggestions worked.

I have a Wireless Netgear Router, DSL SpeedStream Modem and Vonage VoIP modem....

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank You.

It seems like you're encountering difficulties with HomeGroup networking between your Windows 7 devices. Let's troubleshoot this issue step by step:

Troubleshooting Steps for HomeGroup Connectivity Issue:

  1. Check Network Discovery and Sharing:
    • Ensure that network discovery and file/printer sharing are turned on for both your desktop and laptop. This allows your devices to find each other on the network.
    []Verify HomeGroup Password and Credentials:
    • When you create a HomeGroup on the desktop, note the password it provides. Use this password when attempting to join the HomeGroup from your laptop.

    ]Troubleshoot HomeGroup Connections:
    • Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> HomeGroup. Try troubleshooting the HomeGroup connections from both the desktop and laptop.
    []Firewall and Antivirus:
    • Temporarily disable the firewall and antivirus software on both devices to check if they are blocking HomeGroup connections. If disabling them resolves the issue, adjust the settings to allow HomeGroup connectivity.
    [
    ]Check Services:
    • Ensure that the necessary services are running:
      • SSDP Discovery
      • Function Discovery Resource Publication
      • HomeGroup Provider
      • HomeGroup Listener
    []Router Configuration:
    • Check the router settings to ensure that UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and Bonjour services are enabled, as these can help in device discovery on the network.
    [
    ]Network Adapters:
    • Update the network adapter drivers on both devices to ensure compatibility and stability.
  2. IPv6 and IPv4 Compatibility:
    • Although you have IPv6 enabled, ensure that IPv4 is also enabled as some devices might require both for HomeGroup functionality.

      Additional Recommendations:

      • It might be helpful to restart all networking devices (router, modems) and the Windows devices to clear any network conflicts.
      • If the issue persists, you could try creating a new HomeGroup and ensuring that both devices join using the same password.
      • Consider checking for any recent Windows updates that might address HomeGroup connectivity issues.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the HomeGroup connectivity issue between your Windows 7 desktop and laptop.
