Out of nowhere the startmenu, hovering over objects on the taskbar, right clicking desktop to menu, using task manager: all of these are now very slow. The thing is periodically it will run fine even though I have the same number of applications running and haven't really changed anything. Everything else runs fast, it's just the windows interface that is slow.

I am on an Asus UL80Vt notebook.

Thanks for anyone who can help. I am new to windows 7.

Solution
It seems like your Windows 7 system is experiencing slow performance specifically in interactions with the user interface elements like the Start menu, taskbar, desktop right-click menu, and Task Manager. These issues can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially improve the performance of these elements on your Asus UL80Vt notebook. Here are some steps you can try: 1. Check for System Updates: - Ensure that your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, performance issues can be resolved by installing system updates that address software bugs or hardware compatibility issues. 2. Scan for Malware and Viruses: - Perform a thorough scan of your system with...

Here are some steps you can try: 1. Check for System Updates: - Ensure that your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, performance issues can be resolved by installing system updates that address software bugs or hardware compatibility issues. 2. Scan for Malware and Viruses: - Perform a thorough scan of your system with a reliable antivirus program to check for any malware or viruses that might be affecting system performance. 3. Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs: - Disable unnecessary startup programs that may be running in the background and causing system slowdowns. You can do this by using the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) to manage startup items. 4. Update Device Drivers: - Make sure that all device drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause performance issues. 5. Check System Resources: - Use the Task Manager to monitor system resource usage. Check if any specific process is consuming a lot of resources and causing the slowdown. You can also check the Performance tab in Task Manager to see if CPU, memory, or disk usage is unusually high. 6. Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation: - Perform a disk cleanup to delete temporary files and unnecessary data. You can also defragment your hard drive to improve disk performance. 7. Adjust Visual Effects: - You can try adjusting the visual effects settings in Windows to improve performance. To do this, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Performance settings, and choose the "Adjust for best performance" option. 8. Check for Hardware Issues: - Ensure that there are no hardware issues affecting the performance of your notebook. Check for overheating, faulty RAM, or any other hardware issues that could be causing the slowdowns. By following these steps, you may be able to identify and resolve the issues causing the slow performance of the Windows interface on your Asus UL80Vt notebook running Windows 7. If the problem persists, feel free to provide more details so we can offer further assistance.
