This happens to me every time I get in a skype call or steam chat, in game chat works fine but just other programs. Help would be appreciated.

When in Skype have you set the default hardware settings for sound and speakers to what device you want to use? If not it will use nothing.

Nah man that isn't the problem, I can't hear ANYTHING at all. I can hear skype when I'm in a Skype call, but I can't hear anything else. And as soon as I leave the skype call, I can hear everything.

Hi

Check your Skype settings, I'm pretty sure that there is an option to turn down or mute other sounds when Skype connects to a call.

Can you post some screen shots of your default sound device from the play back and recording devices. Then a screen shot of your default sound settings in skype.
