How well do the PCI type cards for USB 3.0 and eSata work on PCs with motherboards that don't support USB 3.0 and eSata? I see WD has new externals and people are posting issues of slow transfer speeds and loosing conections. I suspect the above may be a big part of the problem.

I am having a problem with an eSATA hard drive that causes Windows to freeze if the drive is plugged in at powerup. I started Windows in safe mode, and saw that the last driver loaded before freeze is C:\Windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys. However, when I view this folder in Windows Explorer...
I had an old (6 months old) internal hard drive that I had setup as an external drive go bad yesterday so I replaced it with a brand new internal drive that I am trying to connect using my esata connector. It is the same exact setup as I had for my old drive that did work for 6 months.

I have 2 W7 PC's; the good one and the bad one!
Let me say at the outset that on both my bios & all my drivers are up to date! I have yet to establish a cause but the bad W7 crashes around start up 3 times per week on average. I suspect that 1 of the two 500Gb RAID discs is the culprit and...
I have the same problem: running W7 Pro 64 bit
Kernel Version 6.1.7600.16617 on a desktop.
It started a few days ago: W7 failed to shut-down and I had a report of a BSD 1000009f, although I had left the computer to shut down and did not see the BSD screen. I'm attaching the minidump...
I am trying to use a ThermalTake dual external bay that allows you to use 2 internal sata hard drives externally. I was able to get it to work fine with XP PRO Sp2. It would see both drives in the bay and i could access each. now i have connected it to my Windows 7 Ultimate...
Windows 7 Home Premium, Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600, 64 Bit
I set up Backup to use a large external ESATA drive. It worked fine for weeks, until I swapped the port the drive was plugged into. Backup then could no longer see the drive, even though it showed up in My Computer and I could copy...

I have an interesting situation that I need some help with. A friend of mine who lives in Alaska has a Vista system with a 320g hd and also has two 160g hd's from his old system. I suggested that he install one of the 160's inside his new machine and get an USB or Esata external case for the...
I have not found anything on this subject so I hope someone can help. Originally had a Dell XPS 420 with 32 bit Vista and eSATA worked great. I recently installed clean 64 bit Windows 7. Everything went smooth - all is great except for eSATA. I downloaded the 64 bit version of Matrix Manager...

Hello. My network consists of a Windows 7 PC, A debian mythtv box, a Macintosh G4 10.3.9 and a Windows XP SP3 laptop. I like this combination (the laptop is a Via based unit which came with Vista but turned out to be way too slow, so I *upgraded* it to XP which runs - and has always run -...

Let me start off with a little back story; I'm an computer technician who really doesn't feel like troubleshooting his machine by himself anymore. My initial issue was with hibernation; I'd put the computer into hibernate and sometimes 5 seconds sometimes upto a full minute or two it would turn...
Today I got an eSATA cable that I ordered. I plugged an external drive into my machine with it while Windows 7 (7100) was booted and it recognized it without any problems. It found all of the files and all seemed to be good.
I then used the Hardware Removal Tool to remove the drive, and shut...
Good news.
"The Serial ATA International Organization today, made the third-generation SATA interface official. The new interface provides a 6 Gbps high-speed serial data connection between the system and most of today's data storage devices such as hard drives, solid-state drives, optical...
Ok, so i tried installing Win 7 RC1 on an external HDD, but got following problems:
1. on eSATA it wouldn't see it, as i assume the drivers for the controller are loaded after booting, during windows startup (if any one knows a workaround for this, something as a startup flash drive for loading...
