Once upon a time, tucked away in the Settings menus of Windows, there was a secret number that determined your worth—not as a person (thank goodness), but as a PC user. This cryptic figure, the Windows Experience Index, became a badge of honor or a badge of shame, depending on which end of the...

Anyone who’s been around the Windows block since the Vista days might cringe at the mere mention of the Windows Experience Index. Oh, that quaint little scoring system that promised to tell you how impressive—or, more frequently, disappointing—your PC was. Well, Microsoft is back with another...
A couple of weeks ago I got a message that I had virtually no space on my C drive (3 x 40GB SSD in RAID 0). This was a big surprise. I am running Windows 7 PRO. I removed some restore points to get back to 7 GB of free space. I then did a disk cleanup to get to 11 GB. Since then, the free...

I can't help but believe that Microsoft took WEI (Windows Experience Index) out of Windows to appease to brick & mortar stores like 'BB' that couldn't fool their customers anymore when they tried to sell inferior quality PC's as though they were of better quality.
What do you think?
1.) Why...

This morning I spent 2 hours, that's right... 2 hours, installing Win 8 Pro. Win 7 takes about 30 minutes... and that's a full install from scratch. Anyway, after downgrading my laptop from Win 7 to 8 I re-ran the Windows Experience Index test. Not only did all of my scores drop by 0.1, but I...

I have had this problem ever since my dad built this computer and even he has no idea what has happened. I am not a computer genius but I came across the windows helps forum so now I am deciding to give it a try. This blue screen occurs most when I am playing games or when I am trying to rate my...

I dual-boot Windows 7 & 8. Now, I could switch to 7 & verify this but, I think my recollection is correct. In 7, after getting the Windows Experience Index, one could View Details but, I recall it being about what the number means & how it was derived. We would often use Everest (or the like)...
