I lost all my data because apparently external ssd's are not hot swappable. Here is how it went: I installed Windows 10 on the SSD and moved all files from the HDD to the SSD while running the OS on the HDD. Then I put the SSD in the laptop hard drive space and booted up, but there were no files...

On one of my (older) computers there is a defect sector on the hard disk.
Checking the surface of the hard disk shows a red square for it.
It seems to me that all the "usual" reserve sectors are already in use.
Every thing else works on this computer. No unusual noise comes from the hard disk...

I have this computer, happens to be winXP but that may not be important.
Now I understand SATA drives boot in sequence from No. 1.
So if you had four boot drives the one it would boot from would be SATA port No. 1. Right?
But when I put an extra drive into this computer today it didn't. It...

Hi
I'm getting very slow hard drive transfer speeds. Both drives are SATA:
Seagate Barracude Green 2TB 6Gb/s 5900RPM ST2000DL003
HGST 4TB 6Gb/s 7200RPM HDN724040ALE640
There is plenty of space on each drive.
I'm transferring from the Seagate to the HGST. I'm copying over some video...

Hi!
My laptop was in the shop but i had the internal ssd. I attached it to my wife's laptop(win8) via sata-usb and continued booting from the external ssd(win8.1). It worked but now my wife's laptop won't boot windows from the internal drive. I tried automatic repair and it gives me a black...

I converted from Windows 7 Home to windows10. When I go to Disk Defragmenter it tells me I can't optimize because my drives are solid state. My Drives are Hitachi SATA. How can I make Windows 10
redetect my Hard Drives?
How can I delete a "local disk" on my hard disk drive that I never use or need? I plan on replacing my SATA drive with an SSD and want it a single disk prior to the transfer.
I've recently upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, cpu and ram and chose to install windows 8 over the old windows 7. Then I deleted the old windows files. I used to be able to run many applications at the same time on my old system, for example itunes, firefox and a game, but in Windows...

Back to running Windows-7-pro. Still more solid than 8.1 or beta-10.
I have 16-gigs of ram on the board. Windows-7 sees it, but I often wondered if it actually uses it. I had the pagefile at 12-gigs. So I did a test.
I moved 38-gigs from one sata drive to another sata drive. The desktop...
I purchased a Windows XP desktop because my old XP desktop motherboard died. I wanted to be able to put my old hard drive (SATA100 7200RPM 160GB) in it and keep on using it. The new desktop has a smaller (looks like 80GB) hard drive that I would like to make a slave out of. I think it is an...
