After installing Windows 7 cannot boot anything else - This one's different

Hi,

I have installed Windows 7 RC Build 7100.

The Problem
---------------
Windows 7 is essentially working fine except that it has prevented me from booting up my XP partition.

The worst thing, no Boot Loaders I have will boot up from the floppies or CDs. I can't rebuild the MBR.

BootitNG DVD = gives "divide error"
BootitNG Floppy = gives "Press enter to reboot" message while loading
Ranish = gives a flashing cursor i.e. just stops while loading
OSloader = no boot screen happens after it said it had installed.
XP install disc = gives a black screen after message saying checking my configuration - it just gives up.

I can't understand why, these don't work now. I've used them all often enough before with this same computer configuration.

What I did to install.
-----------------------
My system before installing:-

Partition 1 XP test partition
Partition 2 XP main partition
Partition 3 Data partition

I deleted the Partition 1 allowing 24GB unallocated space for Win7

I rebooted with the Win7 CD loaded
The Win7 loader found the partitions. I selected the unallocated space and it continued and installed successfully.
In Win 7, I can see my XP partition and other disks.

I'm at a loss as how I can get XP back.
I have XP image copies made by "Image for Windows" but I need to get XP up before I can restore. I've tried restoring under Win7 but it doesn't work.

EasyBCD
----------
I have tried EasyBCD 1.7.2 to have a look at the boot info. It says this.

There are a total of 2 entries listed in the Vista Bootloader.
Bootloader Timeout: 30 seconds.
Default OS: Windows 7

Entry #1

Name: Windows XP
BCD ID: {ntldr}
Drive: E:\
Bootloader Path: \ntldr

Entry #2

Name: Windows 7
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

Well how can I put this. er.... HELP, HELP

Have anyone any ideas please?

No probs. It did help in that it jogged me into going to the Neosmart forums. They've go a lot of info about how booting works and how Vista/W7 has changed the way it boots. Maybe it as simple as getting a boot manager thats compatible with Win7 - like Paragon.

I'm still trying to get my head around it. It seems to be using both partitions to boot.

(C) Healthy (Boot,PageFile,Crash Dump,Primary Partition) - Win 7
(E) Healthy (System,Active,Primary Partition) - XP

Should I be making the Win7 partition active?
