I have used Windows 7 since July of 2009, whats your point? The user friendliness/Backwards comparability is what makes Windows so insecure. You grossly misunderstand the security in Windows, and need to know that. Windows is a virus magnet. It was so bad Microsoft was even talking about implementing user mode drivers. This would have given users direct access to the hardware and in return opening up the chance that when you do get a virus it could kill hardware. I say when you get a virus/worm, because it will happen. NO MATTER WHAT EVERY WINDOWS USER WILL GET A VIRUS OR WORM AT SOME TIME. It is a fact, and there is nothing you can do about it. The fact of having a AV is not to just prevent getting a virus/worm, but fix it when you do. The different levels of networking is just an easy way to change network settings on the fly. Nothing more than that.
XP and 7 are about par with it come to security. Though XP is a 10+ year old OS, so that is not saying a lot in it's favor.
You are talking like you are virus annalist. The fact is that a lot of software titles use virus code in the source code and AVs ignore what program the code comes from. So in reality, it's not a false positive, it is just not what program it thinks it is. Yes Defender and MRT searches for male ware, not virus/worms. It does its best with the limited definition database that it has. On top of that there are much better titles out that do the same and more.
RPD can only be used if you are running through a server, running third party software, or open ports on your router/are directly connected to they modem. If you use third party software they have secerity protocols in place. Running through a server should really only be done on a VPN, but possable with out. The third is just plain stupid and should never be done, even if you are only running a single computer house, always run with a router. It will not only stop most directed attacks, but can stop worms from getting to you. People Near Me.....I have never used it. Couldn't tell you if it is secure or not. Being that it comes from Microsoft I would say not.
You are using mobile broadband, still WiFi, with a linger range. Uses the same IP addressing schemes as standard WiFi. The only difference is that it uses a PPP configuration and is harder to slip in the middle and alter the information that is gathered. If you use any kind of credit card or bank information, it will just take time to decrypt it. Being that information never changes, attackers have all the time in the world to get it. Just capture the packets and decrypt it latter. Bango Batman, I got bank account.
Servers get cracked all the time. I remember on one occasion when, this is so freaking funny, ZoneAlarm was cracked. A bad copy of their free software was going around. It was downloaded from the ZoneAlarm web site. People kinda should have known though. I wouldn't download a firewall/antivirus/anti spyware with full definitions that was only 6 kilobytes. I am too young to remember when software was that small.
Linux is for users that want something better than Windows. Linux is a great OS that runs like Windows Workstation/Windows Server/Unix and still have the ability to completely customize it 100%. I would have to say that any problems you are having must be a PEBKAC issue, caused by a ID10T error. If you know what I'm saying.
UAC disabled......*sigh* What ever.
Those sites are not safe. Most sites like facebook and my space are a breeding ground for virus attacks. There are even entire classes of virus/worms devoted to just social network sites.
Nether XP nor 7 are safe. The should be treated like a troubled child on crack, staring at you with a lead pipe in their hand. Never leave Windows to fend for itself. That is a foolish move. God have mercy on your soul.
As for using my laptop in the office. Well, the office would have their own computers,so I would not be bringing mine to the office. But of course if you use an office computer, you are using someone else's computer,so I would have to use the software that's on there. If I like it or not. Possibly Internet Explorer because most offices don't put any other web browsers on there.
There I can tell you are a simpleton that uses computers as a hobby. People that do this as a career want to have their own computer with them at all times. It's not about what the IT there wants or what would be best for the company. It is all about that bottom line. I have seen companies go bankrupt because they wanted to violate the EULA on some Microsoft product, and got caught. Not my problem, I had signed documentation that I informed them about the violation and I was not to be held responsible. Before I installed any of the software I had the CEO, CFO, staffing, HR, and even the janitor sign it. Got me out of hot water a couple times. This same thing goes for other things in a business as well. IT seems to be the one department that get the shaft when it comes to funding. Look at the Hawaii college data leaks. Bad juju Batgirl.
All of this together just goes to strengthen my position that you either need to get better training, or stop spreading your useless idea around. Risky behavior is bad if it be randomly hitting the mattress mambo with a complete stranger or running a computer with no AV. It is all the same, just I don't think computers can get herpes. I will leave you with this though, from a hikoo I take to heart very deeply.
