Windows 7 BSOD - Newly formatted

MoXeeM

New Member
Hello!

Here's the story. Newly formatted pc. Installed nForce drivers for 780i, Geforce drivers for the video card, and drivers for soundcard. I was updating via Windows update; Bam! BSOD.

All the relevent info is in the attached zip, using the SF Diag tool.

If there's anything more that I can provide, let me know. Oh, and also, CPU-Z Ram 'shots.

Thank you in advance,

Sincerely,

Mox

If you have two monitors attached, you might disconnect one.

Can you start in Safe Mode?

Looks like it may be an issue with your memory settings:
According to the images you have posted
your memory is currently running at 533MHz and timings of 5, 7, 7, 20 and perhaps even 2.1 volts (not sure of that one though)
You may want to try toggling of EPP in the system BIOS and setting the memory as per manufacturer's specs manually which I think are 400 Mhz 5, 5, 5, 20 and 1.8 volts. Although you have only posted slot #! of the SPD tabs and it would appear that you have four gigs of memory which would indicate you have another slot poplulated so we should see that one as well and the zipped up copy of the exported HTML report for RAMMon.
Also you may want to check and see if there is anything more current in the way of drivers for your sound card, looks like something from Creative.
These in particular:

Hello!

Thanks for the quick replies.

UPDATE: I got another BSOD. SF Diag is crashing with an exception on MSInfo32, and now I can't get any of the other "relevant" information, so I manually pasted the new minidump file in for the new BSOD.

@SaltGrass: I have 3 monitors in total and I usually use them for work.
I can try disconnecting them, but could it really be a monitor causing the problem?
The computer boots correctly, so I can boot in either safe mode and normal mode.
The BSODs seem to come up randomly.

@Trouble: The ram I currently have is Link Removed - Invalid URLI think PC8500 is suppose to be 1066Mhz, is that right? That's also what I see them rated as on the site.
I find it odd that CPU-Z says max bandwidth 400mhz, but they're probably going by JEDEC standards, right?
Because then we get SPD Ext. EPP1.0. , meaning it can go up to 533? Ok sorry for the questions. I'll try toggling EPP and lowering everything down.
I definitely forgot to post that second tab, which will be in the present post .
Sadly, I own an Auzentech Prelude 7.1, and they seem to have made their latest drivers in December 2010. I had found a modified driver at one point, but I was still getting BSODs so I ditched it.
Finally, Rammon does not seem to open. It opens up as a processor but then shuts down. Not really sure why.

EDIT: I noticed upon fixing my memory speed that EPP was in fact NOT turned on (they list it as SLI-Ready Memory)? This setting was set to disable, and yet they were running at 1066Mhz. Now I enabled it, with CPUOC 0%. Still running at 1066 Mhz. Should I redisable it and lower everything down to 800Mhz?

Thanks again for the help.

Very appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mox

In your update log, it looks like you got updates for a Samsung and HP monitor. Anytime I see device driver updates, I become suspicious. Since the blue screens do not occur on boot, perhaps they are not involved, but there are two unloaded monitor.sys drivers.

If you don't find an answer in the memory settings, perhaps it would be a good time to set up drive verifier.

@Saltgrass

Hello again and thanks for the quick reply. Ah, I see :). Yes, these two drivers were installed by windows update; I have 2 HP monitors and a samsung monitor. They were working fine before the update too; it's Windows Update who suggested the driver. Should I remove them?

I will also start up driver verifier right now I think (or will this make it harder to find the culprit?).

Thank you!

Cheers.

Trouble knows a lot about the memory situation, so you might be able to get it corrected that way.

I would keep the drivers in mind if you can't find anything else.

Make sure you know how to turn off Verifier, so you can stop the boot BSODs if they start occurring (Verifier /reset).

I don't have much experience reading Dump files, but yours if the first time I have seen a reference to the Fat file system. Do you have any devices plugged in using that, like flash drives?

@Saltgrass:

Okay, thanks!

Mmm, I only have an external harddrive, Seagate FreeAgent Drive, but it's formatted in NTFS. I also have a bluetooth dongle, and a few ipod cables and the cradle for the shuffle, but they're not plugged in so cables shouldn't show up as Fat.

No BSOD so far this morning.

Turning on driver verifier.

Thanks,

Cheers.

Just as a slight aside. It's always best to get your hardware/software driver updates from the manufacturers or your Mobo/PC manufacturers website. Windows Updates (or the Device Manager) is known to install "older" drivers, often, as you've found, causing more issues than you would care to shake a stick at.

By all means use Windows Updates (or the Device Manager) but consider it as your last port of call.

@Elmer

Hello! Thank you for the note. I fully agree with you. The thing is, I was not going to install "drivers" for the monitors; hence when it suggested it, I was like: "Oh, I ... guess?"

You're right though. I should note however, that the other drivers, so my Soundcard, my nForce 780i mobo, as well as the gforce drivers were all directly downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
Display "drivers" were they only ones added from Windows.

Thanks.

Cheers!
