I have messed with every power option setting. Turned off all screen savers. I dont have a third party screen saver. I have all my updates but my computer keeps going to sleep after 2min. Is it a bug or am I missing something? Need some help. Thanks!

Please post or upload your current power scheme.
  • Open a command prompt (winkey + r) > cmd <enter>
  • Type powercfg /List (make note of the scheme that has a * next to it and select the long GUID string and copy
  • Type powercfg /q 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e as an example and post all the output.

How do I copy from the command prompt?

Click and drag the mouse over what you want to copy, then just right click. Right click again to paste or the usual Ctrl + v works too.

The control + R did nothing for me. I typed in cmd in the search bar and opened the command prompt that way. It will not let me drag and copy

Left-click and drag over the text you want to copy it should become selected (change color) then just right click to copy

It won't highlight but I was able to select all after right clicking. This is what I got:

You should be able to disable them
  • Press ctrl + i
  • System
  • Power and Sleep
  • Additional power settings
  • For the active scheme click Change plan settings
  • Change advanced power settings
The Sleep After settings should be under Sleep and Display under Display

using ctrl+R and ctrl+i dont do anything on my computer. Do I need to have a certain setting to use those key strokes?

Hi

Ctrl+R doesn't do anything on my computer either.
Just right click on the start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).

I'm not sure there is a key option to open the command prompt in Windows 10, I couldn't find one.

Have you tried going to Settings, Power and Sleep and looking at what the settings are?

These may be different on a laptop then on my PC, there may be laptop settings of some kind that control this.

Oops meant Win + R to open the run dialog box. Also yes there is no default method for opening a command prompt, but if you have either a desktop shortcut or have it pinned in the taskbar you can right click the icon > Properties and click in the shortcut box. Here you press the key combo you want to use to open it. I have ctrl + alt + t since I'm a heavy Linux user.

Are you sure it's going to sleep or is it just the monitor turning off? My other thoughts would be, do you have a third party or HP tool that manages power and also have you checked your monitor settings for a power saving mode?

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, did you check the settings on the actual monitor and see if there is a power saving mode settings that are causing it to go to sleep?
From the power cfg the first thing to turn off is the display in 258(hex) seconds or (2 * 16^2) + (5 * 16^1) + (8 * 16^0) which is 10 minutes
