Windows 7 Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered BSOD

I'm at my wits end. Any help is appreciated.

Using the SF diagnostic tool, the only button that didn't pull any info was the minidump. I've changed the setting so it doesn't restart, and to a small size as well. Even after a restart, no info is pulled from the minidump button.

Screenshots of cpu-z is also in the zip folder. The ram mon .html file is in as well.

So this is my third time reinstalling windows, hoping maybe it was a bad install. I've had the same problems in the 3 instance of the install. I tried ruling out the hard drive, thinking the used hard drive was bad with a new one, but still had the same results. I also replaced the 6950 video card with a gts 240, hoping I'd just have to rma the video card. That didn't help either. So I've had bsod's for the nvidia card and also the amd card.

The settings I've changed on this fresh install is to the Power Options. I set it to High-performance. I have downloaded the following and am ready to run tests: speedfan, cpu-z, gpu-z avg, furmark, hdtune, memtest, and anything else that's needed

I'm still installing updates from Windows Update, but I doubt that would have an impact on my problem, since the first install was fully updated and still had the same issues.

The issue happens when browsing websites, and playing games, and everything else in between. I'm burned out and am going to take a nap and come back to this. Thanks again for taking the time

If I've read that right you have now set up to create minidumps if/when the pc bsod's. Until you crash again you won't have any minidump files. It doesn't create them retrospectively. So now you're playing a waiting game.

AVG is known to be a cause of BSOD's on many Windows 7 systems. Suggest that you uninstall it. Download the correct Link Removed for your system (32 or 64 bit).
If you have AVG ID protection installed, download the AVGID Protection Remover from the above link as well (it wouldn't hurt to download and run it anyway). Download BSOD friendly Link Removed due to 404 Error as AVG's replacement.
Uninstall AVG through the Control Panel. Re-boot to Safe Mode and run the AVG Removal tool(s). Re-boot to normal mode and install MSE. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled!

I checked c:\windows. no minidump folder exists yet. My video driver crashed 2 times in a row.

I'm removing avg as I type, and I'll replace it with mse.

The other change I've done is update the ahci sata driver, and added the qword to the windows registry. tdrdelay is at 8 now.

Oh and I'm up to date now. Windows update only shows optional updates which are the language packs.

my ethernet driver is showing an updated date of 10/25/2010. Windows updates are finished.

I'm confused on which driver to pick to download from broadcom's website. Either the netxtreme desktop/mobile link, or one of the two netlink 57xx. If you could point me in the right direction for that, I'd appreciate it very much.

No dump files as of yet, and the minidump folder doesn't exist either. I'm reinstalling mse at the moment. Should be caught up very soon. Thanks

My video driver crashed 2 times in a row.

Have you the latest drivers? (Install a couple of hours ago, I assume you have).

Driver Install - Manual method

1. Download the driver and extract it to a folder.
2. Open the Device Manager.
3. Right click the device you wish to change the drivers for. You can select Properties > Driver > Driver Details to check you have the right device.
4. Choose Update Driver Software.
5. Select Browse My Computer For Driver Software.
6. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
7. Select Have disk...
8. Select Browse..
9. Navigate to the extracted folder and double click on the .inf file
10. Hit OK, then Next and the driver(s) will then begin to install.
11. After it has installed, GoTo C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. Locate the driver you've just updated, right click it and check the dates under its properties.

I installed the new ethernet driver

When I navigate to c windows system 32 drivers, the date modified is ‎Today, ‎December ‎04, ‎2011, ‏‎4 minutes ago.

I don't think I mentioned this earlier, but I'm using a pci wireless network card to connect to the network at the moment. There is no ethernet cable hooked up to the computer.

After I restarted, I realized when I clicked on the .inf file, it gave me many options for a driver. I mistakenly chose a 3com one, and went back through the steps to get to the list again. Once there, I received a bsod. It said something about a bad pool. I restarted normally, and it gave me a second bsod about a page fault. I restarted into safe mode, uninstalled the 3com driver, restarted normally, and windows chose a driver for the ethernet controller. The ethernet driver that's installed is now Realtek with a date of 10/25/2010. Driver version is 7.31.1025.2010. Can you see the list of drivers once I choose the driver from have disk? Should I type in here the list of options? Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.


As a Priority:

Download and run CPU-Z. Take screenshots**/snips of the Mainboard tab, Memory tab and all the slot #'s under the SPD tab.
Go to Post Reply, click on the Go Advanced button and attach the screenshots**/snips to your post for all the RAM experts to see by using the paper clip you will find on the top toolbar. Do not zip them up.

I attached the screenshots of cpu-z.

I updated the usb 3.0 drivers with the link you provided.

I also updated the ethernet drivers with what was on biostar's website.

Restarting now

Edit: still have the video drivers crashing.

I removed the amd 6950, and tried my luck with the gts 240. I received a bsod with the file nvlddmkm.sys. 0x00000116.

I'm re-uploading the sf files after the bsod, so everything in there is recent as of now.

Does anyone know if these errors could be from a bad or faulty motherboard? It seems that the motherboard is the only thing I haven't removed other than memory and cpu.

You're getting a Stop Error Code 116

Link Removed "It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception.

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash. As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds. If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating. Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU. Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference. If so, it might be as simple as dust build up and subsequently inadequate cooling." - H2SO4

I couldn't say on that, maybe another member has experience/can offer guidance on this (My opinion would only be biased as I'm not a huge fan of Biostar Mobo's).

The computer and its parts are brand new. the 6950 idles around 44*c, and at load was around 80*c. The nvidia gts 240 idled a bit lower than that.

I really find it odd that both video cards give me the same general error, and was hoping its something that could be rma'd. I might just rma the motherboard.

Even with a biased opinion, have you ever seen or experienced a bad motherboard, biostar or not, be the cause of errors similar to mine?

I also had memtest run overnight. 9 passes and no errors.

I change it in the bios, but the cpuz's screen still shows 1t command rate

I've changed the values to this:

I'm going to edit this once I restart to add what values these are brb

I'm still not able to keep the 2t after the bios change. Any suggestions?
