Windows 7 Gaining access to document folders

I was seeking to access a backup folder (from my iPad) on the Documents and Settings tab on the C drive. When I did I received the message "You don't currently have permission to access this computer. Click continue to permanently get access to this computer.
Clicked continue:, got this message. "You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access you will need to use the security tab.
Clicked security tab. On the next window I tried every possible option for gaining access, i.e. "Everyone", "System", "DHarris (DHarris-PC\DHarris)", and "Administrators (DHarris-P
C\Administrators" In each case I get the message "You have been denied permission to access this folder."

The computer was shop built and is new. I am the only person who uses it. HOW DO I GET ACCESS TO MY OWN FILES?

Documents and Settings in Windows 7 is not a real folder. It is a Junction (Symbolic link) that allows legacy applications to interface with the Windows 7 file structure.

All the files that were in that folder in XP are contained in
C:\Users\<your user name>\Documents
C:\Users\<your user name>\Appdata

Appdata is a hidden folder.
