Windows 7 Graphics drivers freeze system

After installing the graphics drivers for my GeForce GT240 I get a background screen, and nothing more, no icons, no task bar, no start menu. I tried using the disc then went to the site and downloaded the drivers there. Help

Uninstall driver, then power down/off. Pull card and power back up, letting onbaord graphics take over. Then power down/off, reinstall GPU and download the latest driver for your card from here. Then install driver, usally with a reboot is in order after the install of driver. If not restart manually.
