I have an ASUS EEE netbook running Windows 7 Starter and a Gateway 832M running XP Media Center Edition. An HP LJ 1200 is connected to the Gateway and a workgroup is set up to share the printer (and allow file sharing). A Dell laptop (running XP) sees the workgroup just fine and can transfer files to the Gateway and print on the Gateway just fine.
I was able to set up the Workgroup on the ASUS and file/printer sharing is ON on the Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing setting screen. In addition, I am able to see the ASUS (and transfer files to/from it) with the Gateway. But the ASUS cannot see the Gateway or the Dell. I had to enable the files sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption to be able to see the ASUS.
Any ideas why the ASUS can't see the network or printer on the Gateway?
