Microsoft has released the KB5058502 update for Windows 11, introducing several enhancements and fixes aimed at improving user experience and system stability. The Recall feature is designed to help users quickly locate and return to previously viewed content across various applications, websites, images, and documents. By opting in, users allow the system to take snapshots of their activity, which can later be searched using descriptive terms. Access to these snapshots is secured through Windows Hello authentication, ensuring that only the user can view their activity history. Users have full control over this feature and can pause or manage snapshot collection at any time. This functionality is particularly beneficial for those who frequently multitask and need an efficient way to retrace their steps.

Click to Do

Click to Do introduces a set of actions that users can perform on text and elements within Recall snapshots. By selecting text from a snapshot, users can copy it to the clipboard, open it with an appropriate application, search the web, open links, or send emails. This feature enhances productivity by allowing users to interact directly with content from their activity history. Additionally, Click to Do can be accessed by swiping from the right edge of the screen on touch-enabled devices, and IT administrators have the ability to manage this feature within commercial environments.

Improved Windows Search

The update enhances Windows Search by incorporating semantic indexing alongside traditional methods. This improvement allows users to find documents, photos, and settings using natural language descriptions, eliminating the need to remember exact file names or content. For instance, users can search for images by describing them, such as "bridge at sunset," or locate documents by their content, like "Europe trip budget." These enhancements are powered by the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in Copilot+ PCs, enabling efficient searches even without an internet connection. Currently, this feature supports select languages, including English, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

Additional Improvements

The KB5058502 update also includes several other enhancements:
  • Widgets: Web developers can now create interactive widgets that integrate seamlessly into multiple widget surfaces, expanding the customization options available to users.
  • File Explorer: A new "Recommended" section has been added to the File Explorer Home page, displaying relevant Microsoft 365 files for quick access. Additionally, text scaling support has been improved across File Explorer, File Open/Save dialogs, and copy dialogs, enhancing accessibility. Performance improvements have also been made to the extraction of zipped files, particularly when unzipping a large number of small files.
  • Settings: The Settings app now includes a new "Actions on Copilot+ PCs" page, allowing users to manage which applications can recommend actions, providing greater control over personalized suggestions.
  • Windows Share: The Windows Share interface has been updated to include options for editing images before sharing, such as cropping, rotating, and adding filters, streamlining the sharing process.

Fixes and Quality Improvements

This update addresses several issues to enhance system stability and performance:
  • Blue Screen Error: Resolved an issue that caused devices to encounter a blue screen with error code 0x18B (SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR) after installing the April 2025 security update and restarting.
  • Internet Connectivity: Fixed an issue affecting internet connectivity on devices resuming from sleep mode, which resulted in intermittent connections.
  • File Systems: Addressed a problem where the operating system would unexpectedly stop, displaying a blue screen during normal usage when a user profile was redirected to a network VHD(X).
  • Imaging: Resolved an issue where some content pages with JPEG images were not displaying correctly.
  • Windows Hello: Fixed an issue where Windows Hello failed to work on devices with specific security features enabled, preventing users from logging in with facial recognition or PIN after performing a system reset.
  • Windows Setup: Addressed a problem where installing Windows 11 version 24H2 with Windows Setup and running System Preparation (Sysprep) afterward resulted in improper boot file configuration, causing push-button reset options to fail.
  • Windows Update: The Windows Update settings page and the Start menu power button now display an estimated time for how long the PC will be offline during update installations, providing users with better information for planning updates.

AI Component Updates

The update also includes updates to AI components, enhancing the system's capabilities:
  • Image Search: Version 1.7.824.0
  • Content Extraction: Version 1.7.824.0
  • Semantic Analysis: Version 1.7.824.0
These updates contribute to the improved performance and accuracy of AI-driven features within Windows 11.

Installation and Availability

The KB5058502 update is available through Windows Update as an optional preview. Users can install it by navigating to Settings > Windows Update and selecting the update from the list of optional updates. As this is a preview release, it is recommended for users who wish to test the latest features and improvements before they are included in the next cumulative update.
