Windows 7 Windows 7 Upgrade Installation Hangs

Any solutions for Windows 7 installation when it hangs at the 62% level of transferring files, settings and programs? This install has stopped responding at 386478 of 511332 files transferred. the only option, and it is a bad option, is to force power off to the computer. Does anyone have a way to avoid this potential shut down option?

I had the same problem with a compaq Presario desk top I contacted the microsoft help phone that is on the box of the software. they were very helpful and as it turned out I needed a bios upgrade. after doing the upgrade win7 worked perfectly hope this helps

A "clean" install is the correct route to take rather than an upgrade.
