Windows 7 Windows Desktop Icon

Can anybody help please? All my windows7 icons on my desktop have another icon on top of the original. They all work perfectly well but I can't change them back to what they were. I can see the original underneath and have tried to change it without any luck.
I shall look forward to the solution if possible.

There's a fixit link as well as manual instruction regarding deleting and rebuilding the IconCache.db
