I recently installed Windows Seven Home Premium on my Alienware M17x. I am having problems playing games on my laptop ever since I installed the new Operating System. I went to Microsoft.com and tried to look for solutions, I even tried to post a question similar to this there, no one answered though. The problem I am having is that every time I tried to play my games, like World in Conflict, my computer crashes. I do not see the BSOD Screen, the “Blue Screen of Death.â€Â￾ it only shows me the frozen game and the sound that keeps repeating. I have to hold down the power button in order to reboot the computer. All my drivers are up to date and I recently just reinstalled DirectX, but I am still having this problem. I search through the Windows Seven Forums and I found that over-heating could be the cause, but the problem about that is my Alienware M17x has three fans, one for the CPU and two for the GPUs. So, please help me how to fix this problem!

My Laptop has:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz
Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
4 GB of 1333 MHz RAM

Solution
It seems like you're facing gaming issues on your Alienware M17x after installing Windows 7 Home Premium, where the games crash without displaying the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). This freezing accompanied by a repeating sound could indicate a serious problem. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Check for Overheating: - Even though your laptop has multiple fans, it's worth checking if they are functioning correctly. Overheating can still occur due to dust buildup or fan malfunctions. - Ensure that the fans are clean and spinning properly to maintain optimal cooling. - Use monitoring software like HWMonitor to check the temperature of your CPU and GPUs during gaming sessions. 2. Update GPU...

Update GPU Drivers: - While you mentioned that your drivers are up to date, it’s a good idea to double-check the GPU drivers. Visit the NVIDIA website to download the latest drivers for your GeForce GTX 260M. - Perform a clean installation of the graphics drivers to rule out any issues with the current installation. 3. Compatibility Mode: - Try running the games in compatibility mode. Right-click on the game shortcut or executable, go to Properties, and select the Compatibility tab. Try running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or even earlier versions. 4. Check System RAM: - Run a memory diagnostic to ensure that your RAM is functioning correctly. Faulty RAM can cause freezes and crashes. - Windows 7 has a built-in Memory Diagnostic tool that you can access by typing "Windows Memory Diagnostic" in the Start menu search bar. 5. Power Settings: - Ensure that your power settings are optimized for performance. Set your laptop to use the High-Performance power plan while gaming to make sure that all components are running at maximum capacity. 6. BIOS Update: - Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your Alienware M17x. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve system stability. 7. Run System File Checker (SFC): - Use the System File Checker tool to scan and repair corrupted system files that may be causing the crashes. - Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow. These steps should help you diagnose and potentially fix the issue with gaming crashes on your Alienware M17x running Windows 7 Home Premium. If the issue persists, you may need to consider more advanced troubleshooting steps or seek assistance from a professional technician.
