As above, ive just installed Windows 7 x64 ultimate build 7600 from vista (thank god) on the gf's lappy (compaq presario v6700). All is well with everything aswell as update drivers, etc... the onboard wireless is Atheros AR5007 802.11 v/b for info

The problem is with vista it was picking up the router "SpeedStream6704" BUT NOW, it will not pick this up anymore as i have tried numerous settings including trying to either: A. Add new connection B. Custom IP Address and so on... However, it does sometimes pick up the OLD wireless (god knows why its still on) the "Belkin54g" router ARGH, Thus this needs to be connected to Speedstream for net use

Any helpers? will be much appreciated

Maybe you need to reset your router using a paper clip in the little hole in the back. I had to do that to get a new laptop to connect once. After that you will probably have to delete the faulty connection in W7 and start over.

Is it a wirless router?

try download this freeware utility to see if it picks it up:

WirelessNetView - Wireless Network Monitoring Software

Description

WirelessNetView is a small utility that runs in the background, and monitor the activity of wireless networks around you. For each detected network, it displays the following information: SSID, Last Signal Quality, Average Signal Quality, Detection Counter, Authentication Algorithm, Cipher Algorithm, MAC Address, RSSI, Channel Frequency, Channel Number, and more.

System Requirements

  • Wireless network adapter and wireless card driver that works with the built-in wireless support of Windows XP/Vista.
  • Windows Vista or Windows XP with SP2/SP3. For Windows XP with SP2, it's recommended to install the Link Removed due to 404 Error update. To download this update, Link Removed due to 404 Error.

Using WirelessNetView

In order to start using WirelessNetView, simply run the executable file - WirelessNetView.exe
After running it, the main window displays the list of all wireless networks detected on your area. The list is automatically updated every 10 seconds, so you can see the changes in networks signal. Also, if new wireless networks are detected, they'll be added to the list.

The 'Company Name' Column

Starting from version 1.10, WirelessNetView allows you to view the company name of each wireless device. The company name is determined according to the MAC address. However, in order to get this feature, you must download the following external file, and put in the same folder of WirelessNetView.exe: Link Removed - Invalid URL
Be aware that you must save it as 'oui.txt'

hey guys thankyou so much for all your help but i soon found out that Atheros AR5007 is not comatible with 64bit systems so had to revert back to win7 7100
