Windows 7 Desktop slower than Laptop

Anyone know why my Desktop computer which has much better hardware would run Windows7 slower than my Laptop?

Desktop is:

3ghz dual core
Asus P5K motherboard
4GB RAM
250GB Western Digital 7200 RPM SATA 3.0
8800 GT

Laptop is:
Dell 1520
2ghz dual core
2GB RAM
150GB Western Digital 7200 RPM SATA 3.0
m8600GT

The main issue is that the entire OS just seems slow and sluggish on my desktop, while the laptop is just screaming right along.

Starting up is quick and smooth on the laptop, and it takes forever for my desktop to start up. Even shutting down is slow. Just doesn't make sense.

The only thing I could really think of is that perhaps the standard drivers are playing better with my Laptop than in my Desktop. Anyone have any similar situation or know why my Desktop is so much slower?

Things to consider,

Age of the equipment, which is older, which is newer

Type of install (where both same type, new or upgrade)

Drivers definetely a possibility. would upgrade to check.

also you have 4g of ram in the desktop, but what kind/speed and such.

More info would be useful in Troubleshooting

Desktop is newer and better hardware all around. Both installs of Win7 are from the same exact DVD. Build 7000 to be exact.

Here's my DXDIAG from my Laptop.

I could post all of it, but I doubt it would be too much more helpful. I'll post my Desktop in a few as soon as I get it up and running again.

I just finished re-installing Windows7 again.

I made two slight changes this time:

1. I turned off AHCI and set my SATA configuration to IDE in the BIOS
2. I used my Vista CD to delete, create, and format a new Partition for the Windows7 to be installed on.

So far the Desktop seems to be running up to what I expected it to run at.
