I'm not too terrible familiar with all the ins and outs of networking, but I have some "basic" questions as I am looking into improving my network speed.
I'll begin with what I have on the network.
2 PCs, PS3, Xbox 360 (all wired) and a Wii (wireless).
I have a WRT54GS router currently. I'm...
I have a Compaq Presario V2000, which has only 512MB of RAM. I just so happen to have Windows 7 Ultimate as well, which takes twice that much. I've got a theory that Windows 7 can run perfectly with just 512MB of RAM, here's how I made my discovery:
I was given Windows 7 Ultimate for free by a...

Hi,
I just upgraded my girlfriend's Sony Vaio P series to Windows 7. The performance was a bit sluggish, so we decided to try out Readyboost.
Because it's a Sony, I decided to use the Memory Stick slot for this (it isn't much use for anything else), so I got an 8GB Pro Duo HG which is I...
OK, It's in! I used Paul Thurrott's procedure and everything just worked. Blew away the Lenovo Vista Ultimate 32 bit partitions and expanded freed up space into 1 320GB partition now running W7 Pro 64 bit. I plan on shrinking the 320 down create a data drive / partition later. So now that it's...
Not sure if it's in the right spot, or if it's been done.

I have had a problem with my wireless download speed ever since I did a clean install of Win 7 32 bit. I have seen various forums where others have had similar issues and I have tried everything... uninstalled drivers and firewalls and the whole 9 yards and updated everything and unchecked and...
everyone says how fast windows 7 is but it seems just as fast if not slower than xp (my previous version). Its alright here and there but theres just so many small things that seem to take so long to do. I brought up my task manager to see my cpu usage and it jumps from around 10% (what it is...

When I watch videos on Youtube it goes very slow. Why??? My download speed is 4,03 Mb/s and upload 0,27 Mb/s. Nothing else is working slow, just videos and that most time just on YouTube. I tried to watch videos on My space and it goes normal.
Every help is welcome.
I have just "blogged" this:
I was having a discussion on another forum, and got fascinated by an observation another member had made. If you use the default desktop, the welcome screen only stayed for 2 or 3 seconds. If you customised the desktop, this deteriorated to, in the worst cases...
Did a clean install of 32 bit 7 home. Now it takes ages to intially open IE8. Once open, surfing between sites is generally as quick as under Vista. However, it takes ages to open any link that you have to click. Also to open a JPEG using explorer just takes ages. I've downloaded latest network...

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 32bit onto my Dell Laptop. The browsing speeds as well as download speeds are horribly slow (I get a max of 80kbps download). I have updated the drivers on my Intel Pro wireless 3945abg Wireless device and the speeds have not improved. I currently have...

Hi,
Just wondering if someone can explain this to me? If I open up system info my CPU info reads as follows
Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83Ghz 2.79Ghz
Why is there two different speeds listed? Is there a problem with my CPU or something?
Help!
Many thanks
Andrew
I HIGHLY recommend this CPU. They are rated in the top 10 fastest processors on the market. I'm running a I7 920 system from Tiger Direct for $699 and have never seen any system run as fast and as solid - with so much power left over.
It is a refurbished system with 3 gigs ram, dvd writer...
Reset network adapter?
I want to reset the network adapter to release it from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. I can't find a button to do this.
I could go to a command prompt and us ipconfig but am looking for the setting in Windows 7.
I love a fast clean system that will focus all it's attention to the tasks I
give it to perform. So I turn off or optimize all features that I don't need to
run all the time.
Here are the tweaks I start with.
