I boot from my WINDOWS 7 64-BIT: PROFESSIONAL EDITION Operating System Disc and everything runs and installs just fine. But once it restarts and tries to load the OS, I get the "BOOTMGR is missing, Alt+Ctrl+Delete to restart"

I have seen a couple threads on this but alot of the solutions seem like I need to be in the operating system to do anything. I will gladly give you more information if I can, as I want to get my baby up and running ASAP.

Odd....
So I run the OS Disc and goto repair and use the CMD Pompt from it

I try to run
"c:\windows\system32\bcdedit"

And it tells me that it could not find that path. So for giggles, I put

"d:\windows\system32\bcdedit"

And it gives me:

Windows Boot Manager

device partition=C:

How do i fix this?

So after a little fiddling around, it finally booted up Windows.
I go into Disk Management and see this

C:\ Healthy (Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)
D:\ Heathly (System, Active, Primary Partition)

So for what ever reason, it installed parts of the OS on both drives (RAGE!)... So i am going to disconnect my D:\ drive and reformat my C:\ alone and see if that works. But this also means i have to reformat my D:\ drive as it no longer shows up when i was on my C:\. :(

This may or may not work. Ill post results.

Kinda surprised/annoyed no one has even commented or offered help. Ohwell.. ill take this as a big learning experience. (No Offense to those of you who were actually not online)

So i reformatted.... Again... this time without my D:\ connected and it seems to have installed perfectly as i have yet to get the BOOTMGR Missing error after a few restarts now. I haven't plugged my Slave in yet but will do that soon.

I have no idea why the OS installation decided to do what it did, but I am rather angry that it did that and turned my Slave into a System drive... I will claim this Solved as soon as i get confirmation that everything works when the "slave" is in.

Though i do hope someone can tell me a way i can salvage whats in that drive.

Sometimes it takes a while to find a thread.

It would be helpful to know how your system is laid out. Could you attach a snipping tool picture of your Disk Management Window?

It appears your boot files are on D: , wherever that is. You will have to put them on C:
.

It also matters, if you have more than one hard drive, which one is primary.

More suggestions will be forthcoming after the Disk Management picture...

Yes, I know it did. I had previously stated that the boot files were on my D:\
What I was wanting to figure out was how to get them onto C:\

This info is also posted already.

Anyway. This is a late response as I actually figured out how to fix it.
Since i was trying to reformat my computer anyway, I disconnected the "obstructing" D:\ disk and reformatted/installed OS on C:\ (So it doesnt have a chance to even put the bootmgr on another disk).

Thanks for the offered help though Saltgrass.

--SOLVED--

Glad you got it working, since all you had to do was type bcdboot C:\Windows /s C: then disconnect the other drive.

This thread seems a lot like another one I have seen lately.

i had BOOTMGS IS COMPRESSED TOO but i fixed it with the instalation disc..
just insert disc at cp boot and load from disc and

repair computer > repair using tools > select command prompt >
type: bootrec /fixboot (then enter)(wait seonds.)
bootrec /fixmbr (then enter)
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd (enter)... after it says succesful type: exit ... then press
restart.. and it should work.. it did for me

First of all, Let me tell you the cause of this. If you have two hard Drives connected to your PC and you tried to Install Windows 7 on Secondary IDE or Secondary SATA. It will write the BOOTMGR on primary Harddrive.
I was doing the same thing. I installed Windows 7 on Hard Drive that was connected on Secondary IDE.
Do the following to resolve BOOTMGR is missing in Windows 7

  1. Take Windows 7 DVD or Windows 7 USB and boot your computer with it. Press a key when you are prompted to boot PC with Windows 7 DVD or USB
  2. When Windows 7 completes loading Setup Files. It will ask you to select the language, time and currency. Select it and Click Next
  3. On the next screen, you will see Install Now. But, below you will see “Repair your computer”. Select that.
  4. Now Windows 7 will try to check for the problems in Windows 7, before that it will search for Windows 7 Installation Drive
  5. After few seconds or minutes, it will show the problems and you should see the Problem related to Boot
  6. It will repair the Boot Record by placing the BOOTMGR properly.
Follow the above steps, i am sure you will be able to resolve the BOOTMGR is missing issue.
