Windows 7 BSOD at start up 3 to 4 times per week.

Well final post I think. I just have to write to Mr. Seagate and voice my displeasure at what was their top of the range model two years ago. At least it has 3 years warranty still to run.

All the little issues that arose from the changes have been resolved like DVD drives not recognised by Itunes!

Thanks for your assistance it has certainly increased my knowledge. If I can make one constructive critiscism I would say that it would be a good idea to get people to set up one click restore point and use it at every step. That's more a criticism of me I should have known better. I've done it before.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes

Pete

Ooops! Sorry guys,

Another BSOD this morning.

I connected the external by USB yesterday, powering it and the PC up and down and it several times, seemed ok, apart from USB boot must be set to on in the BIOS and therefore the external can't be on at boot up.

PC had been on and external connected for about 45mins this morning before BSOD. I've looked at the event files and I don't think the external is involved this time. I've attached the latest minidump and the event files. perhaps you'd be kind enough to give and expert opinion.

Ready boot shows up in errors quite a lot. The last driver list upladed is still current.

Kind regards

Pete

Many thanks yet again.

The seagate software says bad drive - return for service. So I will, then it can go on E-Bay!

As an aside, I hauled my XP machine out of mothballs to put the backup data on it from the freeagent and the transfer overwrote and killed the OS! Not sorry was going to wipe it anyway.

The MS Win7 compatibility site says the freeagent IS compatible. I've reported otherwise.

Thanks once again

Regards

Pete

I've had a really good clearout of OAP drivers. There are a few Brother drivers that are a bit aged. but that's about it.

No BSOD's but a bad shutdown giving the Windows has recovered from..... etc.

Freeagent is history.

Have started a thread for NAS drive under Win 7 Hardware. Need something that works!

I attach driver list just in case there's anything to be done.

Kind regards

Pete

Sorry dumpfile sent in error but driver list current.

I've googled the sys files shown. I must be rubbish, I can't find sites for newer files without knowing what the files are part of. Any pointers welcome.

Is there a site that covers updated files? Any pointers welcome.

The brother files look like fax/modem but I don't have one, I never have on that PC.

I found that the quickcam driver LVusbsta.sys forms part of the HD sound driver set. The cam software is not installed but removing the sys file and running Ccleaner still blew out my sound again.

System restore put it right. Any way round it?

regards

Pete

I've just spotted that my other older Win7 machine has newer drivers:

All the Br*****.sys 2009

iirsp.sys 2009

and sisraid**.sys 2009

It was built by the same firm a year earlier than the new machine

any way of safely copying and installing them?

regards

pete

If you're not getting any bsod's, then just don't worry about those drivers.

~~~~~~~~~
If bsod's happen, then attach the .dmp's and update any old drivers.
In case of sufferring from bsod's and when nothing really helps, I PERSONALLY would reformat and clean install the system with the latest drivers. Then if bsod's persist and the drivers are all good, test ram, cpu, hdd, video card. Remove hardware parts to locate what's causing the crashes. BIOS upgrade sometimes helps.
Ok, I'll shut the bonnet down and see how it runs!
Many thanks for your time and help
Best wishes
Pete
Hi,
me again! After a pretty trouble free week, Windows had to force Outlook 2007 to close last night before shutting down.
At start up, I logged on and moments later got a BSOD. I attach the minidump though as my uploads have reached 10Mb there isn't room for the event logs and I can't find how to clear them down.
The driver list is as previously posted.
It was a Kernel event 41 (shutdown) that brought it on.
Any further thoughts?
regards
Pete
Wow! Bsod machine you have there! haha Welcome!
Let's move on to fixing this, shall we?
First and foremost: Uninstall the AVG in safe mode with this tool:
AV Uninstallers - Windows 7 Forums
Reboot and install MSE to replace it.
-----------------
Your Broadcom Bluetooth drivers are too old. They must be updated:
Run Ccleaner to clean the registry after.
If you follow this well, your pc will be fine. Enjoy!
Please keep us updated and/or post new crash dumps so I can see what you may have missed. Good luck with it.
You'd also do well to update your NVIDIA nForce chipset drivers for your motherboard:
Hi Torrent,
PC seems reasonably stable but it's early days yet.
I'm just doing some housekeeping. PXhelp20 and staropen were deleted and the registry cleaned as directed above. I'm still getting an event error that both fail to load and the registry still has a number of instances where they appear. Any way to clean up entirely?
regards
Pete
Delete the registry entries for them. Delete any services that are associated with them that are trying to start with Windows.
Logitech drivers not updated yet.
The last crash you posted was caused by the external hdd again. If you wish to post new crash dumps ever, please make sure that the external drive is not connected while the bsod was caused.
Hi Torrent,
to avoid doubt the attached contains the current event file, driver list and the last BSOD dump dated 15/10/10. The external was sent back to Seagate on 8/10/10 and the replacement isn't back here yet. I can't see how it could be involved.
The quickcam drivers have been totally wiped. no BSOD's since 15/10/10.
Have disabled the loading of the brother, pxhelp & star drivers from start up and seems well.
Would be interested to know what you make of the dump as it was preceded by one on 15/10/10 and one on 12/10/10.
Kind regards
Pete
