Windows 7 BSOD When Windows Boots Up - Computer Fine in Safe Mode

Hey All,

First some background of my problem. It started out of nowhere last week - computer restarted itself twice, then BSOD. When starting Windows normally, it would appear as soon as I logged in. However, computer ran fine in Safe Mode and also ran fine under normal conditions if the internet was unplugged. I eventually diagnosed that the issue was caused by an AVG module when it connected to the internet. So, I uninstalled AVG and verified that the computer ran fine while connected to the internet. I then reinstalled AVG, thinking I had solved the problem.

WRONG!!! Now the BSOD appears as soon as I log into Windows (same as last time). Except this time, it appears even though I have again uninstalled AVG and disconnected the computer from the internet. It works fine in Safe Mode.

I've attached the minidumps and other information. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I thought I had it fixed but it now appears to be worse. Thanks in advance!!

Systeminfo.txt shows no network card installed? What did you do to remove the network card from the reports?

Please turn Driver Verifier off. To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings" - then click on the "Finish" button. Reboot the system for the changes to take affect.

MSINFO32 shows a Marvell Yukon wired network device and a Realtek USB wireless network device
Win7 doesn't like wireless USB networking devices. Here's my rant on this subject:
I do not recommend using wireless USB devices. Especially in Win7 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 - and using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

These 3 devices have problems:
PS/2 Keyboard ACPI\PNP0303\4&23F9C1E3&0 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
sptd ROOT\LEGACY_SPTD\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
Security Processor Loader Driver ROOT\LEGACY_SPLDR\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
If you're using a USB keyboard, it's safe to ignore the error about the PS/2 keyboard

The SPTD entry belongs to Daemon Tools - and there's remnants of it left on your system. Please follow these instructions:
Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

The Security Processor Loader is usually a sign of either a malware infection - or of damage due to a malware infection that was removed. Please run a couple of the free scans here to ensure that your system is clean: Link Removed - Invalid URL

The Asus P5 series of motherboard may have some memory issues. Here's my canned speech on it:
FWIW - I've seen a lot of issues with the Asus P5 series of boards. I usually recommend this:
- DO NOT use the AUTO setting for memory. Go to the RAM manufacturer's website and get the recommended settings for the RAM. Then set those settings manually in the BIOS
- one person with a 2009 BIOS has experienced success by updating the BIOS. This is dangerous and one simple mistake can easily damage your motherboard so it won't work. Be VERY, VERY CAREFUL!!!
- one person reports bad caps ( Link Removed due to 404 Error ) in this post: [SOLVED] Bad overclock and now can't load windows 7 - Tech Support Forum

As of late June 2012 - I haven't seen many issues with these boards over the last several months.

The BSOD's point to registry errors - if possible, use System Restore to go back to a point before the problems happened. Be careful with this. If your system was infected, it's possible that the System Restore could launch the virus again. If you can't find a System Restore point that comes from before the errors started - then don't attempt it.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll do all those things and will post results.

In response to the network card - I didn't do anything. I use a hardline (versus wireless) for that machine but have unplugged it (so not internet connection) because that was causing previous issues. The MOBO has a built-in wireless card but I never use it.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how it does.

Hey,

So I completed your instructions. A few comments:
1. I could not solve the Process Loader issue for the life of me. I tried all kinds of things, including uninstalling it and the video card driver, then re-installing the video card driver. Unfortunately now I can see the windows sign-in screen, although I know it is there because I can sign in (then immediately get a BSOD).
2. I ran memtest and memory appears to be fine with no issues.
3. System Restore wouldn't work - I tried all of the restore points and they all fail half-way through. Is it possible they don't work because I'm trying to do it from Safe Mode?
4. I updated all the drivers except the Asus ones - can't find updates and couldn't find where to uninstall them either.

I have attached updated dump files, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm totally stumped and have spent a couple days trying to figure it out.

Sometimes these things take a while. The average BSOD topic covers 2 pages of posts - but if you look back you'll see that a good number take a lot more time.

You're not meant to solve the Security Process Loader - rather you need to ensure that the system is malware-free (by running several anti-malware scans). Monitor it's status, but don't mess with it. It's a security device, and the more you fuss with it, the more likely it is to have problems.
Just FYI, I am not an anti-malware expert, but I think that there's a possibility that this might not even be a legitimate entry. I wonder if it's an attempt (by a virus) to create another Security Processor Loader device and divert the malware's payload through it (thereby "spoofing" the system into trusting it).

System Restore works fine in Safe Mode - I strongly suspect that this is a virus issue (and it may not be fixable in the BSOD area).

Don't worry about the Asus drivers for now - we'll see what the memory dumps show and will move on from there.

Daemon Tools and UltraMon are still installed. Please un-install UltraMon.
Then, please follow these instructions to ensure that Daemon Tools is completely removed:
Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Link Removed - Invalid URL

The BSOD errors are still all STOP 0x51 (registry).
Since System Restore won't work, here's some alternatives:
- Repair install: Repair Install - Windows 7 Forums
- Wipe and clean install: Link Removed - Invalid URL

I suggest the Wipe and clean install - it'll make sure that the system is 100% clean.
Good luck!
