Can you post the exact make of your motherboard? This utility will tell which it is (and also your audio set up)

lol i have 2 speakers and 2 possibe jacks for microphone.... if thats what u mean

Hi

I had this on my last computer, I just couldn't get any microphone to work when plugged into the Microphone audio port.

I finally went out and bought a usb microphone problem solved.

If you have any use for a web cam I would suggest the Microsoft Life Cam VX5000.
$30 from Amazon. That's what I'm using now.

I use mine with Skype and for recording with good results, the sound quality is good even when I'm sitting a couple of feet away from it. In fact yesterday when I was talking on Skype with a friend he could hear my cat meowing in the back ground.

Is this a laptop or desktop? What port are you plugging it into?

I wish I could buy a new mic/webcam but I can't afford it :(
and.. It's a desktop computer and i've tried the front and the back jack .
nothing works, it doesnt even detect that I have a mic in the sound settings.

Is this a "Gateway" computer? If so (of if not) please post as much information regarding the actual computer as possible, regarding the manufacturer's name, model name, model number, etc. The intel MoBo DP965LV, looks like it was a proprietary intel board used in some gateway computers but it may also be that other manufacturers used it also. There may be other members with the same computer that may have specific information regarding your issue.
How does device manager look? is there anything there that is indicating problem issues with yellow or red indicators, or anything listing "Other Devices", are all other sound featurers working properly?

Did you try running the app I suggested?

i gave you all of the information i had, the model number is GM5258H and yes it is a gateway.
its suppose to have windows vista on it , but i put windows 7 .
and screwed myself over.
:(
this is so frusterating!!!
and the device manager is fine.
there is one yellow thing , but idk what is it , and yes i ran that program you asked me to run Kemical , didn't do anything

I assume you have tried the driver here Gateway Support Drivers & Downloads
Some people with similar problems have reported success using this driver http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2578&DwnldID=13706&strOSs=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang=eng
It seems to be recommended for the 965LT board so it may work on your 965LV, generally if the installer doesn't detect any supported hardware then the process will just halt. Make sure you have "Jack Monitoring" enabled.
Since both of these are Vista drivers you may have to run them using compatability mode go get anywhere.
