My Desktop crashed the other day and have been trying to fix. I can get the machine to boot in safe mode but can not get to boot in standard mode with out it getting to log in screen then after logging in crashing with Blue screen. There were a number of windows updates that were installed just a little while before the crach as well.

I've run chkdsk/r, memory test (memtest86 bootable CD) and reported to Microsoft (of course there is no solution available) and of course the system restore can't locate the restore point.

Hello, welcome.

1) Uninstall the notorious Norton/Symantec in safe mode + networking using the tool found here:

AV Uninstallers

Reboot and install MSE to replace it.

2) Update your video card driver from NVIDIA.com:

4) Reboot and enjoy. :)

Well I finally attempted to trying this and still will not boot up in standard mode; Updated driver for video card and network adapter, unloaded Norton and still Crashes on start up can then boot up but only in safe mode I've generated a number of new dump files. Also noticed in safe mode DVD in inoperative sound is inoperative as well.
