I did that but it re-installed the duff NVIDIA driver. I guess that I need to delete the NVIDIA driver files?

I don't think it's a good idea to just go around deleting files. You can really screw your computer up.
Maybe I can explain this a little better................
I just replaced my video card (a Nvidia Geforce 8500) in another machine.
Windows recognized it right away and now the driver states Nvidia Geforce 8500 (Microsoft Corporation -WDDM v1.1
So it actually removed my Nvidia drivers that I had downloaded from Nvidia's site and used the Microsoft WDDM driver
