Here is an odd one. Win7 Enterprise PC connected to Server 2003 acting as a file server. For no apparent reason (no software or hardware changes on either machine) when attempting to map a drive from the server all mappings are named as 'Pen Drive' 'drive letter'.
i.e mapping a shared folder...

Two computers are windows 7. One is windows XP. I am not running a HomeGroup. I didn't like how it shared the C:\Users folder by default.
From computer A( the problem one) I can sometimes see the other machines on the network. For example, if I was to map a drive to another machine or just...
I am trying to map a network drive at work, we just bought new laptops with Win7 home premium. With XP when we mapped a drive we put in the address, it asked for a user name and password and bammmm theres the drive. With Win7 I put in the address of the drive, then the username and password...
Ok I am just about going out of my mind with this one. I have a DNS 323 NAS device connected directly to my laptop with static IP's and a crossover cable (removed it from my network for troubleshooting simplicity). I am running Windows 7 Pro. I can access the web interface of this device, ping...

I never noticed this until today when I went to add more space to the Windows 7 drive on my disk. Even though I had Windows XP and then installed Windows 7 my computer shows Windows 7 as Drive C and Windows XP as Drive D. I have no idea how this occurred since i presumed Windows 7 would auto...
I finally got my NAS mapped to my Win7 machine and when the PC goes into Power Saver (Sleep Mode) it loses the drive mapping. Logging off and back on does not seem to restore the mapping, only restarting.
Also Win 7 doesn't see the other WinXP machines on the network? I have gone through the...
My work place is just starting with Windows 7. I am having a problem in that if I add a user to a machine, they cannot see all of there drive mappings. If the user just logs on to the network with out being added to the machine, they can see all of there drive mappings.
Any help with this...
Here is the situation, I have two computers on my home network, one is a desktop running windows 2000 and it has an external hard drive attach to it. The other is a laptop recently upgraded to windows 7 home premium. I had Windows Vista before and was able to map my Windows 2000 hard drives...
I KNOW this is going to be dumb as soon as somebody tells me what it is, but:
Windows 7 64-bit system. I want to be able to work with files in a regular directory on a Windows 7 disk from a Windows XP Pro laptop. I made the W7 disk sharable, and gave everyone full access. On the xp system I...
Hullo,
I'm new here.
I've got an interesting problem, I've never encountered anything like this before. I recently installed the RC 7600 x64 and I run two machines, the other with Windows Server 2003. I use the second machine to map drives to the other machines on the network (ie. the machine...
The title says it all really - woke up this morning, switched on the laptop, and Windows 7 is showing my logical (D) drive as a disconnected network drive... I can still access it ok, but all shortcuts to any folders in it that are on the desktop now have something (can't make out what) on top...
I have the Windows 7 Professional installed on my computer and I have a tower setup in the living room that is Vista Home Basic. The Vista PC just runs 24/7 and runs as my server where I store all my music/videos.
I share the "R Drive" on this PC as \\Desktop2\RDrive
When I map this network...

Hello All!
Well lets get right to it, I come from a mainly *nix background and generally use Windows mainly for work. So far, I have been extremely impressed with Windows 7. I do have one beef though that I have unable to find anything via the almighty google.
I have ~4 exports I would like to...
I recently switched a netbook computer on our LAN from XP (on which all machines had been) to Win 7rc (x86).

Great forum everyone! Many of the responses have helped me a lot. This situation is a bit different so I decided I needed to post this question.
There are 3 active PCs in this house. My wife's PC still has Win-XP on it. My workstation has Win-7 v7100 RC 64 bit and it runs very well indeed. My...
Every now and then I will "lose" all of my network drives. Ending explorer.exe and reloading it always fixes the problem. Does it forget about my drives or something?! :o
I have seen this once before in my life with XP, but since moving to 7, it has been a semi-regular occurrence (once a week...
Hello all,
Does anyone have a solution to the unholy mess that is the way that windows 7 handles logon scripts when the user is a local administrator?
To be fair Vista is no better, but Windows 7 seems to have changed things again and not for any gain that I can see.
My GP logon scripts...
