Windows 7 Headphones/Headsets not working

The speakers of my laptop are working properly but when i use headphones then it doesn't work. I checked the playback devices but headsets/headphones are not in the list, there is only speakers.

How to solve this problem. please help

Do your headphones work with another source? Also, I'm not sure, but it may be that if you have both headphones and speakers connected, audio goes primarily to speakers = leaving headphones dead. This you must manage either through software, or by unplugging speakers.

ya it works fine with another source. it's my laptop so when i connect my headphone it should automatically work isn't it. i don't know what went wrong. please help
