I have a problem with my mouse it keeps freezing up on me, I have to do the 3 finger salute (ctrl+alt+delete) and then sometimes the mouse will work again but most times it does not work. I have uninstalled the mouse- did not work. I even reinstalled the os and that did not work either, now I'm stuck on windows update searching for them, just letting it run 2hours now and still searching and can not even use the mouse. I also tried 5 different brands of mice, still have a locked up cursor. even tried every usb port, I am running windows 7 ultimate 32bit. can someone please help resolve this problem. thx very much

Hi,
could you post a little more detail on:
What your system specs are?

Are your USB/chipset drivers up to date?

Have you tried using a PS/2 port or converter?

Have you checked for malware?

Hi,
nice pc..

The only thing that looked a little suspect was the Logicool Mouse and keyboard. I don't know this brand although you mention using at least 5 different brands. Did any of these include any wired mice or were they all cordless?

The mouse & keyboard are Logitech items, and I have tried both wired & wireless. also I forgot to mention that every time I re boot my pc my mouse settings revert back to default. I always have the mouse pointer options set to fast speed, enhance pointer precision box checked. but I have to set them again.

Apologies for all the questions but did the issue get gradually worse or just start one day? Can you remember if it coincided with any updates or new applications? The reason I ask is because of you pressing the 3 finger salute it's probably stopping whatever is hampering the mouse. I'd look through your applications and see what you added most recently. It might even be a combination of things?

it happened all of a sudden after I turned on my pc the next day,

and now since I have been trying to fix my mouse problem with my mouse 2 more problems have come up, the first one is my mouse pointer options settings revert back to default settings when I re boot my pc. the settings that I like to have are: select a pointer speed I set to fast and I have checked the first 2 boxes, those are the ones that keep changing. the other error that that I am getting when I re boot is Microsoft visual c++ runtime library: this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way, please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am also hoping that when I get my upgrade to windows 10 it will fix all my problems if I do not get them fixed before the upgrade.

If you open add and remove programs you'll see which which visual c++ runtime libraries you have installed. You can then download them again here and run the repair option:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2977003

These libraries are needed by certain apps/games. What about using system restore? Is there a point you can go back to? If not I'd try installing the C++ libraries again.

Same here to be honest..

did not work, downloaded apps that you said to install. re booted repaired rebooted again and still the same error. I hate this when nothing works to fix a problem. how about doing remote desktop maybe if you take over you could get it done. this is my wifes pc and she is not home right now.

Can you check the event logs and see if anything is amiss also which anti-virus app are you using?

Microsoft security essentials, is there anyway to do remote desktop or can we talk on the phone? because event logs has a lot of errors, to much to type but here it is. I hope I did this right.

Hi,
this isn't really convenient for me at the moment but the above has provided some clues so thank you for posting the above.

Can you remove the AVG Tuneup Utilities application please.

Also please re-install MSE as it may have become corrupted:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Look for command prompt in the start menu, right click on it and run as administrator. Type:
sfc /scannow
Press enter and await results.

Please run Malwarebytes as this app compliments MSE/Defender quite well:
Free Anti-Malware Detection & Removal Software

when I tried to run defender I get the error that MsMpRes.dll is missing, so it will not run. I went to all of the dll download sites and that dll was not on any of the sites. I am running sfc /scannow and letting it run overnight.

it finished quicker that I thought, results were: windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
