My DVD drive no longer works on my Asus N81VP-D1. If I connect my laptop hard drive to another computer and then install windows 7 to the harddrive using that computer and then put the harddrive back in my laptop, will it work?
Sorry to trouble anyone, but I'm having a bit of a problem with my DVD drives not being recognized. In a prior post, one of the fellows on this stream (Randy) solved the problem I'm having by suggesting that I edit the Upper and Lower Filters in the Registry. Unfortunatley, I've lost this...

Hi,
Randy previously answered this problem with the suggestion that I disallow Windows Updates to overwrite my DVD drivers. I did that and it worked until the next update came down. Now, it's back to square one. When I tried to re-install the DVD driver, I got the following message...
Every time Microsoft updates Windows 7 it causes new problems on what's been a relatively stable Dell XPS8000. The latest update causes my DVD / CD drive (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GH50N ATA Device) to be inaccessible! By running System Restore I've brought it back from the 'bit-bucket', but I'd really...

Yesterday, I made the mistake of letting my sister-in-law use my computer (the one I use for work) to burn a CD. I thought she said burn a DVD, which is something I do all the time. However, apparently she downloaded a CD ripping program called CDEX (very legitimate -- doubtful of any...

Hello,
I just noticed three weeks ago (I think, or could be earlier), windows could not detect any dvd i put in my dvd drive. Well, the Dvd Drive itself could not be detected in Device Manager but in BIOS the dvd drive is detected, I could choose the Dvd Drive as first in boot sequence. I am...
I enabled in WinExplorer menu
Tools->Folder options->View->Hide empty drives in the computer folder.
However (even after restart) empty dirves (like my DVD drive (=no media inside)) are shown in WinExplorer as drives.
Why?
How can I disable otherwise empty drives in WinExplorer?
